Everything You Need to Know About Eyelash Extensions
Do you dream of beautifully curled, long lashes or a well-groomed look that doesn't require daily effort in front of the mirror? Eyelash extensions might be the answer!
Eyelash extensions are easy to maintain and guarantee the stunning look you desire anytime, anywhere. All you need to do is clean and brush your eyelash extensions daily and have them maintained regularly by your favorite technician.
Eyelash Extensions in a Nutshell
Eyelash extensions use thin synthetic fibers and lash fans, which are individually glued to your natural lashes with a special adhesive designed for this purpose. The first application typically takes about 2 hours, depending on your desired outcome and the number of your own lashes.
Lying on the lash technician's bed is always an opportunity to relax – while the technician works their magic, you can safely doze off for a moment or chat pleasantly with your technician and truly enjoy your "me" time.
Eyelash extensions are also suitable for contact lens wearers and active individuals. If your eyes are sensitive or you suspect the adhesive used in the extensions might not be suitable for your eyes, always mention this to your lash technician beforehand.
How Often Do Eyelash Extensions Need to Be Maintained?
The longevity of eyelash extensions depends on the life cycle and growth rate of your natural lashes. Typically, it's recommended to go for a lash fill every 2–5 weeks, and you should set aside 1–1.5 hours for it. The better condition your extensions are in at the time of the fill, the quicker the maintenance will be.
In addition to regular maintenance by a technician, you also need to take care of your lashes at home. With your new lashes, keep the following in mind:
- Do not get your lashes wet during the first 24 hours after application.
- Opt for oil-free cleansing products; oil-based eye makeup remover can weaken the adhesive's hold, making your dream lashes a short-lived joy.
- Following the previous point: if you apply eye makeup despite having extensions, please favor water-soluble productsf!
- We know how wonderful it is to rub sleepy eyes, for example, but we advise eyelash extension owners to proceed with caution – mechanical stress is not good for the extensions!
- Speaking of sleep; with eyelash extensions, the best sleeping position is on your back so that the extensions don't rub against your pillow.
- It is of primary importance to keep not only the extensions but also the base of the lashes and the eye area clean to prevent bacteria from forming a favorable breeding ground near the eyes.
What Kind of Eyelash Extensions Are Right for Me?
Over the years, extension techniques and available extension types have developed tremendously – you can brighten your gaze with many different lengths and curls, and combinations thereof. A skilled lash technician can create a result that is very natural, truly dramatic, or anything in between.
You don't need to study fiber lengths or curl scales; your technician will know how to choose them according to your wishes and needs and will tell you more about them. Feel free to bring a picture or two to help visualize your desires for the technician!
Generally, extension methods can be divided into three main categories:
- Classic Eyelash Extensions: Where it all began! In classic eyelash extensions, individual lash fibers are glued to your lashes, and the fullness of the result depends on the thickness of your own lashes. This is a great option if you particularly desire length and a well-separated look for your lashes.
- Volume Eyelash Extensions: Instead of individual lash fibers, volume lashes involve gluing lash fans, consisting of several thinner fibers than classic ones, to your lashes. The result can be significantly fuller than with the classic method if desired.
- Hybrid Eyelash Extensions: As the name might suggest: hybrid lashes combine classic fibers and volume fans. This technique makes it possible to create fullness even on sparse lashes, and hybrid lashes are the answer to your desires when you want a similar "wispy" look as with store-bought false lashes.
Do Eyelash Extensions Damage My Natural Lashes?
If the extensions are applied carefully and professionally, the risk of damage to your natural lashes is negligible. In the grand scheme of things, patience is key, and it's important that the lash technician can tell their client whether their desired outcome is achievable. For example, significantly long and full extensions may not stay on delicate natural lashes and can damage them in the long run.
By choosing a professional lash technician and having your extensions maintained regularly, you always ensure ready and stunning lashes without damaging your own.
How Are Eyelash Extensions Removed?
Whatever you feel about eyelash extensions, do not rip or pull them off forcibly. You might pull out your own lash at the same time, and in the worst-case scenario, a new one might not grow back.
If you want to remove your eyelash extensions, we primarily recommend booking an appointment with your lash technician. Or, if a somewhat quirky-looking transitional phase doesn't bother you, you can also wait for your own lashes to renew, in which case the extensions will naturally fall out with your own lashes in about 2–3 months.
